Floating Pump Station Designed and Supplied by Nord Minerals Commissioned in Kazakhstan

In early June 2026, Nord Minerals completed the construction and commissioning of a floating pump station for one of Kazakhstan’s largest mining operations. The facility has been handed over to the customer and is now in full commercial operation.

The customer’s processing plant treats up to 4.2 million tonnes of gold and copper ore annually. The operation is located in a region with extreme climatic conditions, where temperatures range from –45°C in winter to +45°C in summer.

Nord Minerals supplied the floating pump station for the new tailings storage facility’s water reclaim system. The project was delivered on a turnkey basis, covering engineering, equipment manufacturing, installation supervision, commissioning, and start-up.

Station specifications

The project incorporated proven Nord Minerals solutions for process automation and power distribution based on Schneider Electric equipment. To ensure maximum reliability, the station is equipped with pontoon leak detection sensors, dual-compartment pontoons, a vacuum priming system for the pipelines, as well as fire and security alarm systems and access control.

Several enhanced engineering solutions were also implemented:

During project execution, the customer introduced an additional requirement: to separate the two pumping lines so that water could be supplied to different reservoirs operating independently. The Nord Minerals team promptly updated the design by supplying a modified manifold and shut-off valves, upgrading the control software, and implementing additional measures to ensure safe access to the facility.

Over the past several years, Nord Minerals has built extensive expertise in delivering floating pump station projects for the mining industry. Although each installation presents unique technical challenges, the company continues to expand this area of expertise, providing customers with reliable, tailor-made solutions for water reclaim systems.
